I hope you meant O₂ molecule instead of O, .

Well, I will try to explain the diagram.
First, draw the outer-most electrons (Valence electrons).
- Oxygen has 6 valence electrons, so it needs only 2 valence electrons to complete its octet.
- Therefore, another oxygen molecule can share 2 electrons. 6 + 2 = 8, and the octet is complete!
- Represent the shared electrons by drawing lines which join them.
- Or, another form of drawing this is in the second attachment.
