The C₄ pathway of photosynthesis that takes place in mesophyll and bundle sheath cells of the leaves.

Explanation:

Photosynthesis

It can be defined as a" sequence of reactions that take place in the leaves of plants which utilize carbon dioxide, water and the energy from sunlight to produce oxygen and glucose".

That is :

The fixation of carbon dioxide takes place through a number of different pathways in green plants.

The given diagram represents:

The C₄ pathway takes place partly in the mesophyll cell where the first carbon dioxide fixation takes place.

The carbon dioxide enters the mesophyll and combines with 3-C PEP  to form 4-C Oxaloacetate.

This Oxaloacetate transforms into Malic acid with the release of NADP.

On moving to the bundle sheath cell, the aforementioned Malic acid releases the carbon dioxide to the calvin cycle (C₃ pathway) and converts into pyruvic acid and moves back into the mesophyll to repeat the cycle while the calvin cycle goes on to produce carbohydrates.
