Answer :- There is less cake now .

Explanation :-

  • Cake is used as a singular word . so, helping verb will be used as singular 'is' .

Note :-

→ Chocolates or cake are on offer.

→ Chocolates or cake is on offer.

here both sentence are correct.

  • In first Chocolates are plural so we used plural helping verb .
  • In second sentence using the Proximity Rule, the verb becomes singular because cake which is the nearest thing, is singular.
