Given:

The cost of 10 cm² is Rs 12.

To find:

The cost of the blue colour paper required

Solution:

From the given figure, we have

The height of the conical part of the model, h = 3 cm

The diameter of the base = 14 cm

∴ The radius of the base, r = \frac{d}{2} = \frac{14}{2} = 7 \:cm

∴ The slant height of the cone, l = \sqrt{h^2 + r^2} = \sqrt{3^2 + 7^2}  = \sqrt{9 + 49} = \sqrt{58} \:cm

Blue colour paper is used to cover the conical surface of the rocket model, so we have to find the curved surface area of the conical part to get the area of the blue colour paper used.

Therefore,

The required area of the blue colour paper used to cover the conical portion of the rocket is,

= Curved surface area of a cone

= \pi r l

= \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times \sqrt{58}

= 22\times  \sqrt{58}

= \bold{167.54 \:cm^2}

Now,

If the cost of 10 cm² of blue paper is Rs. 12

The cost of 1 cm² of blue paper = \frac{12}{10} = Rs. 1.2

Then,

The cost of 167.54 cm² of blue paper is,

= Rs. 1.2/cm² × 167.54 cm²

Rs. 201

Thus, the cost of the blue colour paper required to cover the conical part of the model is → Rs. 201.
