Given : cost price of article A Is rupees 600 more than that of B

and selling price of A is RS 1200 more than that of B

difference between profit earned on selling these two articles is 40/3 %  of the cost price of A

profit % earned on A is 100/3

To Find : profit earned on B

Solution:

Let say cost price of B  = 300C   Rs

cost price of article A = 300C  + 600    Rs

Let say Selling price of B  = 300S   Rs

Selling price of  article A = 300S  + 1200    Rs

Profit Earned on B = 300S - 300C = 300(S - C)  Rs

Profit Earned on A = 300S   + 1200 - 300C - 600 = 300(S - C) + 600  Rs

difference between profit earned = 300(S - C) + 600 -  300(S - C)  = Rs 600

40/3 of the cost price of A  = (40/300) (300C  + 600 ) = 40C + 80   Rs

40C + 80 =   600

=> 40C  = 520

=> C = 13

=> 300C  = 3900  Rs

cost price of B  = 3900  Rs

cost price of A  = 4500  Rs

profit % earned on A is 100/3

=> 4500 + (100/300)4500  = 6000  = 300S  + 1200

=> 300S  = 4800

Selling price of B = 4800

cost price of B  = 3900

Selling price of B = 4800

Profit =  900 Rs

Profit % = (900/3900) * 100  =  300/13 %   = 23.1  %
