 \cot( \alpha ) + \cos( \alpha ) = m > > (i) \\ \cot( \alpha ) - \cos( \alpha ) = n > > (ii)

subtracting \: (ii) \: from \: (i) \: we \: get \\ 2 \cos( \alpha ) = m - n \\ \\ adding \: (ii) \: and \: (i) \: we \: get \\ 2 \cot( \alpha ) = m + n

multiplying \: (i) \: and \: (ii) \: we \: get \\ ( \cot( \alpha ) + \cos( \alpha ) )( \cot( \alpha ) - \cos( \alpha )) = mn \\ {cot}^{2} \alpha - { \cos}^{2} \alpha = mn
