Yes, because we have it easier than they did, in most situations. Thanks to technology, we can connect to anyone across the world in seconds. Automobiles have made transport easier. Phones have made lives easier. The world is less complicated, technically.

No, because hey, you don't get to indulge in the basic pleasures of life. The virtual world has deprived people of normal conversations and bonding. Pollution has taken over our right to sit in a park and read a book amidst squirrels and birds and fresh air. Industries have rid us of clean air and water. Urbanisation has robbed us of our culture and peace. We don't think twice before cheating on our partners. We think we know everything, because of Google. There's terrorism and crime galore. The number of people exceed the number of jobs. Overpopulation has deprived us of space and silence. Ohh, I can go on and on and still never end.

It's just my personal opinion that we aren't progressing sustainably. So, no, we do not lead better lives than them. Our forefathers led a peaceful and meaningful life, and that's a life worth living.
