This reaction completes in two steps:

  • Treat ethyl bromide with aq. KOH then it will convert into ethanol(CH3 - CH2 - OH)
  • Then oxidation of ethanol takes place in the presence of potassium permanganate (KMnO4) and we'll get acetaldehyde (CH3CHO).
