Cow's,like all other rumminantes, have a special kind of four chambered stomach. It allows them to first slightly chew the food and engulf it,this partially chewed food gets stored in the rumen. When thay just relax they bring back that partially chewed food and chew it properly and then swallow. This is the reason why they always found chewing food.
