CRACK THE CASE
The General Manager of ABC Ltd. called a meeting of the Production Manager and
Sales Manager of the company. He explained them that both of these departments
are the base of the company's success. Therefore, it is very necessary for both of
them to work with coordination. Also, they were told that whatever decision they
took for their respective departments; which could affect others, they must give its
information to them immediately. They did the same. As a result of this, there neves
arose a situation in the company, when the sales orders could not be complied with
because of the shortage of goods.

Characteristics of Coordination

i) Coordination integrates group efforts: Coordination unifies unrelated or diverse interest into purposeful activities. This helps in integrating individual efforts to ensure that organizational goals are fulfilled.

ii) Coordination ensures unity of action: This feature helps in realization of a common purpose. It acts as the binding force between departments and ensures all actions are aimed at achieving organizational goals.

iii) Coordination is the responsibility of all managers:

- Top Level managers need to coordinate with their subordinates to ensure all the effort is focused in a common direction.

- Middle Level managers coordinate with both top and lower level managers.

- Operational Level managers coordinates the activities of its workers to ensure that work proceeds smoothly and according to the plans.
