There are a lot of methods to do this..

one of them..

take the numerator as x

and denominator as y

So fraction is x/y

In first condition it is given

2x/y+2=5/4

Cross multiply...

8x=5 (y+2)

8x=5y+10

x=(5y+10)/8

x=5y/8+10/8

x=5y/8+5/4

In second condition given that..

x+1/2y=1/2

Cross multiply........

2 (x+1)=2y

2x+2=2y

Substitute x with 5y/8+5/4

2 (5y/8+5/4)+2=2y

10y/8+(10/4)+2=2y

(10/4)+2=2y-(10y/8)

5/2+4/2=8y/4-5y/4

9/2=3y/4

3y/4=9/2

y=9/2*4/3

y=36/6

y=6

x= 5y/8+5/4

x=5*6/8+10/8

x=30+10/8

x=40/8

x=5

Therefore the fraction is 5/6

Conformation

In first condition

2x/y+2=5/4

2*5/6+2=5/4

10/8=5/4

In second condition

x+1/2y=1/2

5+1/2*6=1/2

6/12=1/2

Hope it helps......
