Read the passage given below and answer the questions
A major component of Malaysia's war against drugs is the treatment and
rehabilitation programme for addicts. Under Malaysian law an addict is one
who tests positive for dependency on drugs in a medical examination and
may not be in possession of drugs. The tests are ordered by the police or
rehabilitations oflicers who are empowered to stop anyone whom they
suspect of being a drug user. Rehabilitations of addicts are compulsory. It
varies from 2 years in an institution or for first time offenders, under
supervision by officers
For the first two weeks the addict is detoxified by the doctor and is
thereafter considered drug free and fit for rehabilitation. The first goal of the
regimen is to get the ex-addicts back into good physical condition. This is
done by giving them military-type training. The ultimate goal is to turn drug
abusers into productive citizens and the inmates learn how to form, develop
skill for livelihood and attend regular counselling sessions.
The movement is supported by the preventive-cducation cflort in
schools and is complemented by parental and community programmes
