The Blue Bead
Two different methods the author uses to describe Sibia is by writing about her possessions, the reason the author does this is to show how little Sibia has where she is from. She lives in poverty, toils day round and has nothing to show for it. Another method is showing how Sibia thinks. This is shown through Sibia's thoughts concerning her heroic act. She thinks that what she did for the Nomadic woman wasn't heroic, but was something as normal as a thorn tree.
The title, "The Blue Bead" is very misleading, but also a very effective title because it relates back to Sibia and her point of view. You would think the title would be something along the lines of, "To Become a Hero", or something, but it's about something so miniscule, but at the same time, so very primary.
Symbolism
One symbol I found throughout the short story was when at the end of the story Sibia's mother asked her what had happened to her, and Sibia responds by telling her about the blue bead she had found, and not of her acts of saving a woman's life. This shows that Sibia is a selfless, modest and humble girl. This also shows that heroism alike what Sibia has done, is somewhat normal where she is from.
Sibia - Human Nature
What Sibia does that reveals human nature is that we can all be heroes. We don't need super powers to help others, we just need to toughen up, and become the people we need to be to help others. You may not know it, but there are super heroes all around us, from soldiers who fight for our freedom, to the doctors that save lives.
Monologue
I chose to do my monologue by pretending to be in the mind of the Crocodile. The way I did this is by relating to his natural instincts, and showing you he wasn't a hostile killer to all, but to defend himself, he must attack.
The Protagonist
Name: Sibia
Description: The description of Sibia is a 12 year old Indian girl. She has great eyes, ebony hair and wears an earth-coloured rag.
Speech: Sibia's speech is different from most stories, this is because the author wanted as little speech as possible, and limited it only to her telling her mother about the bead at the end of the short story.
Action: Sibia's action's in this short story was first skipping to work only to end up defending a Nomadic woman from the Crocodile.
One metaphor I found throughout this short story is when the author is describing the Crocodile in the beginning and calls him a prehistoric juggernaut.
Juggernaut - any large, overpowering, destructive force or object, as war, a giant battleship, or a powerful football team.
Juggernaut from the Spiderman series.
Mood: The mood of this short story is action and heroism.
Point of view: The point of view of this story is 3rd person. As seen from God's perspective.
Text to Self: This story shows text to self by showing me that I don't need to be super strong, or super fast to be a hero. I'm sure most people would have some hesitation to face a Crocodile head on, but Sibia thought so little of it, and struck the Crocodile, without
hesitation nor any fear.
Text to World: The story relates to
text to world by telling us stories
of how some people can react in the heat of the moment, and become a different person. Either they become very strong, or faster. One example of this
is when I was up at my trailer with my father, and a woman fell out of her boat, and was trapped beneath it, he ran to her rescue and was able to push the boat aside and lift her to safety.

Hey,
That Sibia was such a brave girl that she didn't even care about what will happen of her, she could even die bcoz of the mugger crocodile's attack.. but she did not hesitate n drove the hayfork right into its eye. At last she was the happiest creature of this earth as she had found the blue bead near the river.. because of which she was able to make a new necklace for herself as in the beginning of the story, we were told that she was fond of making those necklaces out of red, shiny lal-lal beeges(scarlett seeds).
Hope this helps you buddy!!
