The sonnet no. 33 titled Full Many a Glorious Morning I have Seen is, undoubtedly, one of the well renowned sonnets of Shakespeare. The poet portrays the image of the sun bathing the world in a glorious glow which is marred by the masked clouds and results in a sort of disfigurement i.e. disgrace. He laments the short lived shine of sun. He is bringing forth a fact of sun shining here and hiding its glow from the world there. The content of the poem is not complex and easy to understand. The word sun is used as metaphor which stands for the beauty of youth. Sovereign symbolizes nobility. The words, golden, gliding are associated with excess, wealth and royalty. The pun on the word sun is also noticeable. A few scholars have interpreted the pun on son/sun in the light of the death of Shakespeare’s young son also.
