Cu₂O is two coppers and one oxygen. When you do reverse cross, you find that the charge on copper is 1+, and the charge on oxygen is 2-. Since oxygen is 2- it requires two electrons to be satisfied. Each copper molecule needs to lose one electron, in total losing two electrons. The picture I have attached shows the steps!
