cyclostomes are marine but migrate for spawning to fresh water. After spawning within a few days, they die. why??( please don't spam)​

A common feature of cyclostomes is that during vitellogenesis and gonadal ripening the gut begins to shrink and, after spawning, it becomes atrophic and death follows soon afterward.
