1. India opted for federalism because it gave a written and rigid constitution to us. it gave powers to different levels of government. It also gave supremacy to the judiciary.

2. In order to divide the legislative powers between the Union and the states, the Indian Constitution has three lists with specific subjects. The Union List has 97 subjects on which only the Centre can make laws. ... The Concurrent List has 47 subjects on which both the centre and the states can legislate.

3.The Union executive consists of the President, the Vice-President, and the Council of Ministers with the Prime Minister as the head to aid and advise the President.
