Answer:

1. Latitudes and longitudes like angles are expressed in terms of degrees. It is because the earth is a sphere. Any line drawn around the earth is a circle, The latitude and the longitude tell us about the angle between the center of the earth and a given location of a place on the globe.

2. Large countries like U.S.A, Canada, Australia and Russia have many time zones because they have a large width and a vast East to West extent. Russia has as many as 11 time zones and USA has six zones.

3. It goes zig-zag. In order to avoid the confusion of having different dates in the same country, the International Date Line bends and goes zig zag at the Bering Strait between Siberia and Alaska, Fiji, Tonga and in some other islands.

4. If a person moves towards the east, then he will get extra time because the sun rises from the east, if he towards there where the sun is rising then he will get day and day more. When the person reaches the zenith and sets moving towards the sun.

5. The distance between two successive lines of latitude remain constant (111km) because latitudes run parallel to each other and never meets the other latitude. But distance between the longitudes decreases as they go towards the Pole.

6. One of the primary reasons for changing the watch time while travelling from Mumbai to London is as follows: Both cities lie in different time zones. They are situated across different lines of longitude. According to the Greenwich Mean Time, Mumbai is 4 hours and 30 minutes ahead of London.

7. Difference Between GMT and IST. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London which is measured at midnight. India has only one time zone. *IST is ahead of GMT by 5:30 Hours.
