Endonucleases
i-Endonucleases are enzymes that cleave the phosphodiester bond within a polynucleotide chain.
ii-Some of them have no regard to sequence when cutting DNA, but many others do so only at specific nucleotide sequences. The latter group is often called restriction endonucleases or restriction enzymes.
Restriction enzyme
i-A restriction enzyme, restriction endonuclease, or restrictase is an enzyme that cleaves DNA into fragments at or near specific recognition sites within molecules known as restriction sites.
ii-These enzymes are found in bacteria and archaea and provide a defense mechanism against invading viruses.
