Dadabhai Naoroji, the Grand Old man of India regarded the British imperialism as repressive and economically exploitative. The main objective of the British is economic exploitation of India. According to Dadabhai Naoroji, the British drained the India resources in the form of Home Charges, salaries, raw materials etc.

Dadabhai Naoroji was the fist to describe British rule in the perspective of Drain of Wealth. It is unilateral transfer of wealth from the India to the British with no or least returns from there. He regarded the Drain of Wealth as the root cause of poverty in India.
