Data will be lost if you do not save a document because by default data is present in the internal memory of the computer which is called RAM(Random Access Memory) and it is volatile(temporary) in nature.
So , one must save the data in the secondary memory of the computer like Hard Discs.
The Random Access Memory or RAM is the primary memory of our computer system. It is volatile in nature, which means that the contents will disappear as soon as the power is turned off.
The secondary storage of the computer is Hard Disk Drive which can be used to store data for a longer period of time. So, what the process of saving a file does is that it makes a copy of the present instance of the file into our Hard Disk Drive.
And if you don’t save the file, the changes which you made would be lost as soon as the power is turned off.
However, modern word processing software consists of an auto-save feature which recovers the last state of the file if the system shuts down due abruptly. It does so by regularly saving the file automatically.
