Function : f(x) = x^2 - 4x + 1

For a function to be decreasing, its first derivative must be non-positive.

f'(x) < 0

(x^2 - 4x + 1)' < 0

2x - 4 < 0

x < 4/2

x < 2

=> x (-infinity , +2)

The given function is decreasing for all real values of x less than two(2).
