DDA wants to make a rectangular park in the colony. If the length and breadth of the park is decreased by 2m, then its area will be decreased by 196 square metres. Its area will be increased by 246 square metres if its length is increased by 3m and its breadth is increased by 2m. Find the length and breadth of the park. What is the importance of parks in our life?

Let x and y be the length and breadth of the given rectangle.

As per the given information

(1)

(x-2)(y-2) = xy - 196

xy - 2x - 2y + 4 = xy - 196

-2x -2y = -200.............(1)

(2)
(x+3)(y+2) = xy + 246

xy + 2x + 3y + 6 = xy + 246

2x + 3y = 240...........(2)

Adding (1) and (2)
y = 40

(2)=> 2x = 120

x = 60

Length = 60 m
Breadth = 40 m
