1. ABC is a triangle
2. D is a point of AB and E is a point on AC

We have been given that AC = 18 cm

Let AE = x cm

⇒ EC = 18-x cm

Also, DE is parallel to BC

⇒ AD/DB = AE/EC = 2/3

⇒ x/(18-x) = 2/3

⇒ 3x = 2(18-x)

⇒ 3x = 36 - 2x

⇒ 5x = 36

⇒ x = 36/5

⇒ x = 7.2 cm
