I would stand against it. Reasons:
Any generation has been equally concerned about their looks from following Dev Anand style to Rajesh Khanna to the suit bhagyashree wore.
Fashion or having a sense of fashion isn't wrong even for children it's an outlet of creativity. Like art where we beautify things fashion we beautify our Self. The problem starts when fashion is clubbed with low self esteem so that's all that matters. Swlf esteem is the problem.
Children are pure souls soils and will imitate their elders. If the older generation in the family is fashion conscious how can we blame the younger generation. If the older generation is academically or sports oriented it will influence the child in the same manner. A lot depends on family culture and surrounding.
Fashion means different things to different people. To a villager a girl in suit is fashionable in a city it's not. In a small town a girl in jeans is fashionable in a town it's general clothing. In a city a girl in shorts is fashionable internationally it's the most worn piece. So whats fashion? How can you call kids fashion victims ? Is it bad to dress up and be presentable ? Or does it add to your personality and sense of style as long as it doesn't hinder progress in other fields ?
Live and let live. Don't identify a person's thoughts with his dress. A girl may look n dress up fashionably that doesn't reflect her character or her dedication or hard work. Certainly you cant call her a fashion victim at max a perception victim.
