Perhaps I can bring out some points. Not like a speech however.
A: First of all everyone will agree with me if I say that Google has become the default search engine for the most of the information seekers. So we say "google it" and that's gone into the dictionary.
B : Yes. Let's congratulate Google on that point. There are other search engines too like Bing, Yahoo which are doing well too. What's there, you search for some information on the net instead of going to the library and looking through the books or asking an expert or your professor.
All we need is some information and we get it through Google.
A : That's not it. Google has gone through a lot of changes. Serving the client is their first priority. They are doing more than giving information in a d-umb way.
B : What's that. Let me hear.
A: Google orders the matching links in an order of hits, relevance on the basis of some heuristics and logic. It is not that simple.
When we say information, it means just plain string matching and providing link to that. It could be useful or it may not be useful to the user. So user has to go through many links presented before getting to what he wants.
When we say knowledge it means information that can can be of use for not only now, but in future too. The data obtained through a search can be used to learn some subject, clarify doubts, find examples and become wiser. The information is not just read and discard.
B: Still I will say that it's just a source of information. We need to analyse and understand and convert that into useful knowledge.
Sometimes Google shows maps when not required, photos when not required. Some links shown do not have any knowledge in them. They are just getting somehow into the search results by improper means. On clicking the link, you see nothing relevant there. Some sites deceive google and users by trying to get attention that way.
A: Well, whatever possibly could be done by a search engine is being attempted to facilitate quick search and learning of users. In 2012 Google has added knowledge graph to the search results. So a searcher gets simple meaning of words and phrases right there on the spot. A lot of users are satisfied right with the knowledge graph or box and are happy.
B: But you see Google does not provide the knowledge. It only gives links.
A: True, Google is not even the source. Google is the means of obtaining source of information, source of knowledge and proceeding further on in our knowledge quest.
B: Perhaps yes. But building wisdom into search engine is not easy. Humans want more than that.
A: You know google also shows the links that you have already, visited. It also informs when. Also, it knows your preferences perhaps. The search preferences are also help locate what we are looking for quickly.
So Google or any search engine want to provide a user a quick pointer to the solution. Simple searches succeed very well. Some complicated information cannot be provided readily.
B: Whatever it is, what any search engine provides is information. There is no doubt about that.
It's just like this. The senses (eyes, nose..) provide info to the brain. Brain ultimately has to process that and assimilate and building knowledge inside the brain. What goes on in the brain is knowledge building and knowledge cannot be built outside our brain.
A: There I agree with you. Obviously the knowledge has to be built from information and wisdom on how to use the knowledge lies with the person. This is unquestionable.
A search engine will do what It can for you, up to eye-feeding info that you would want. Googling does not make you wiser. We have to make a conscious effort to become wiser.

B: I agree with you too.
