To give total credit to the French Revolution would deny many historical facts... 
Greek democracy under Pericles pre-dates it by almost 2000 years. 
Don't forget the Mayflower Compact, 1620 
Don't forget the Magna Carta, 1215 
Don't forget that the French Revolution led to Emperor Napoleon, and the Restoration of the Bourbons 
Don't forget that the American Revolution pre-dates the French Revolution, and probably caused it by bankrupting the French monarchy/state in joining in the war on the American side... 

If you don't know what some of these are, use the term and hit Wikipedia for enough to flesh out the references...good luck. Like all historical events, the French Revolution was based on a foundation laid for it by other events, and serves as the foundation of later events...
