Decimals having the same number of decimal places are called like decimals i.e. decimals having the same number of digits on the right of the decimal point are known as like decimals. Otherwise, decimals not having the same number of digits on the right of the decimal point are unlike decimals.

Decimals contain numbers after the points and are more precise than whole numbers. The decimal is composed of two parts;

1) Whole number part: This part is before the decimal point

2) Decimal part: This is the part after the decimal point

Example:  12.345, here 12 is the whole number part and 345 is the decimal part.

The decimals having the same number of decimal places are called 'like decimals.'

Examples: 12.34 and 56.78 are like decimals.

Both have 2 places after the decimal point

The decimals which do not have the same number of decimal places are 'unlike decimals.'

Examples: 12.345 and 5.6 are unlike decimals.

12.345 has 3 places after the decimal and 5.6 has one place after the decimal point
