Formation of coal

Coal was formed from the dead remains of trees, ferns and other plants that lived 300 to 400 million years ago. Even swamps covered by sea water can also form coal . It is believed that dead plants were covered by rocks and soil and were decomposed by bacteria . Answer:

the energy of coal comes from energy that was stored in giant plants and lived hundred of millions of years ago in swamp forests , even before the dinosaurs ! when these giant plants ferns dead they forms layers at the bottom of the soil. then a bituminous coal is formed ( black and brittle and very polluting ) , then antheracite coal is formed ( highest amount of carbon and clean burning )

this is the process in which coal is formed.
