General election:

The election held to elect the members of the Lok Sabha after completion of the normal term of 5 years are called general election.

By election:

When a seat held by any member of the legislative Assembly in the centre of the state falls vacant on account of death , registration of the member before completion of his or her done to fill up this vacancy the election which is held is called by election.
