In a cross breeding, the superior males and superior females of different breed are crossed. This breeding is used to synthesize desirable qualities of two different breeds which results the hybrid progenies animals can themselves be used for commercial production. They can be subjected to selection to develop new strong breeds that can be superior to the original breeds. Several new animal breeds have been developed by the cross breeding. For example; Hisardale, is a new breed of sheep that made by cross breeding in Punjab through the crossing of Bikaneri ewes and Marino rams.
