From the upmost layer of soil, which we can see, till the above of the underground water table, the SOIL can be DIVIDED into FOUR LAYERS— namely,
*A-HORIZON (or) TOPSOIL(the one which we see generally,along with a layer of humus on top),
under it lies
*B-HORIZON (or) SUBSOIL(which we can see in barren or eroded lands),
under it lies the
*C-HORIZON (or) REGOLITH(a layer of semipermeable rocks),
and at last, comes the
*BEDROCKS(a layer of impermeable rocks, that continues till the underground water table).
These FOUR LAYERS, together are known as the SOIL HORIZON (or) SOIL PROFILE.
