Define :

1. Average Power :

When a machine or person does different amounts of work or uses energy in different intervals of time, the ratio between the total work or energy consumed to the total time is average power.

Average power = Total work done / Total time taken

2. Power :

Power is defined as the work done per unit time.

It's SI unit is Watt.

Power = Work done / time

3. Watt Power :

When a work of 1 joule is done in 1 s, the power is said to be one watt.

1 Watt = 1 J / 1 s

4. Work :

Work is said to be done when a force causes displacement of an object in the direction of applied force.

Work = Force × Displacement

POTENTIAL ENERGY :

  • It is defined as the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position or change in shape.

  • Types of Potential Energy :

  1. Elastic Potential Energy

2. Gravitational Potential Energy

  • Gravitational Potential Energy : The work done by a body to raise an object from the ground to a point against the gravity.

Formula : mgh

where, m = mass , g = acceleration due to gravity , h = height

  • Elastic Potential Energy : The energy possessed by an elongated string.

Formula : 0.5 kx^2

where, k = spring constant , x = distance

Mechanical Energy :

  • It is the sum of Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy

  • Mechanical Energy = 0.5 mv^2 + mgh
