A star is an astronomical object that consists of hydrogen and helium gasses, held together by its own gravity.

It can be seen clearly in the sky at nights.

Stars for kids are the topic of stories, poems, nursery rhymes, etc.

Nuclear fusion reactions support the star against gravity and produce heat, photons and other small heavy elements.

The Sun is also considered the star and is closest to the planet Earth.

Stars are the self luminous object in the sky. They are Luminous due to hydrogen and Helium atoms, hydrogen atoms combine and form Helium atoms. This process emits a lot of energy and light and thus makes the stars luminous.

• Brightest star visible in the night sky is Sirius.

• Nearest star to the earth is sun and, the second nearest star is Proxima Centauri ( 40 trillion km away )
