Acceleration :

The rate of change of velocity is called acceleration.

Derivation of formula:

Let an object start with a initial velocity u , attains a velocity v in time t .

So , as per definition ,

\boxed{\red{\bf{\leadsto Acceleration=\dfrac{v-u}{t}=\dfrac{\Delta v}{\Delta t}}}}

For e.g. - A body was initially moving with a velocity of 2m/s . It increases its speed to 10m/s .To increase the speed it took a time of 4 seconds.

So , as per definition ,

  • Change in velocity will be 10m/s - 2m/s = 8m/s.

Now rate of change will be described on basis of time ,

  • Rate of change will 8m/s ÷ 4s = 2m/.

Hence the acceleration in above case is 2m/.

Answer:

Acceleration is the rate of change of the velocity of an object with respect to time. The formula is

a = change in velocity/change in time

a = Δv/Δt
