During free fall, the body falls to the ground under the gravitational force of Earth only.

In this case, due to constant gravitational force of the Earth on the object, the velocity of the object keeps on increasing and changing velocity produces acceleration. This acceleration is called 'Acceleration due to Gravity' (g).

The acceleration gained by an object due to gravitational force is called its acceleration due to gravity.
