Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity with respect to time. It is an vector quantity having both directions and magnitude.

Acceleration can be classified in the following manner :

  • Average acceleration : This measures the change of velocity of a period of time

  • Instantaneous Acceleration : This measures the acceleration at any instant due to instantaneous change in velocity worth respect to time.

Formulas to measure acceleration:

1) \:  \:  a =  \dfrac{v - u}{t}

2) \:  \: a =  \dfrac{ {v}^{2}  -  {u}^{2} }{2s}

3) \:  \: a =  \dfrac{2(s - ut)}{ {t}^{2} }

v => final velocity , u => initial velocity ,

a => acceleration , t => time , s => displacement.

 \huge \sf{} Acceleration

★ In simple words acceleration is just the rate of change of the velocity of a body.

★ It is a vector quantity (a vector quantity means it will have both magnitude and direction)

★ Acceleration is of 2 types

Average Acceleration

Instantaneous Acceleration

 \large \underline{ \rm{} Average \: Acceleration}

☞ It is the rate of change of velocity of the whole complete journey and is not the acceleration of a body at the time.

 \large \underline { \rm{} Instantaneous \: Velocity}

It is the rate of change of velocity of a body calculated at the moment.

Difference between the two:-

★ The average velocity and the instantaneous velocity may differ,as for some time the body may have accelerated less and for sometime more but the Average acceleration does not care about them and assumes that the acceleration was the same throughout the journey.
