Active listening is when the audience has their attention directed to the speaker. Active listening is not just the act of listening, but also showing that they are paying attention. The audience can do this by turning their head and body towards the speaker because facing in another direction will not only show that your attention is directed at something else, but can also come off as rude to the speaker. Active listening is different from just listening because instead of just listening for what the speaker is saying, you have to fully understand and comprehend what is said. Another way to show active listening is when the audience makes comments or asks questions about what the speaker said while also repeating paraphrased versions of what was said to be sure that they truly understand what the speaker was talking about and is also proof that they were paying close attention to what the speaker was saying.
