Bond order (b.o) =
Where; Nb = Number of electrons occupying bonding MO
Na = Number of electrons occupying anti-bonding MO
Nature of bond:
Single bond, if b.o. = 1
Double bond, if b.o. = 2
Triple bond, if b.o. = 3
Importance of bond order is that it tells us how strong the bond is. Dear Studentgher the bond order, more stronger the bond is.
Bond order gives us idea of bond length also. Dear Student the bond order, less will be bond length.
