Firstly the air is taken in by our nostrils and filtered through the cilia present in it. The diaphragm contracts and provides the space for air to come in. Here the lungs are divided into smaller and smaller bronchitis, bronchioles and at last alveoli. This alveoli provides the surface area for the absorption of oxygen and is enriched with blood vessels. The carbon dioxide left over is removed by the relaxing diaphragm.

  • The breathing in human beings takes place through the organs called lungs. The taking in of air rich in oxygen into the body during breathing is called 'inhalation' and giving out (or expelling) the air rich in carbon dioxide is called 'exhalation'. Both, inhalation and exhalation take place regularly during breathing.
