Breeding Value:-
When an individual animal having a particular value for a economic trait is mated to a number of individuals taken at random from a population, then the breeding value of this individual is twice the mean deviation of its progenies from the population mean.The deviation has to be doubled as the individual in question provides only half of the genes to its progenies, the other half is coming at random from the population as a whole.
