Answer:

  • Cell wall is rigid layer of polysaccharides enclosing the membrane of plant and prokaryotic cells, maintains the shape of the cell and serves as a protective layer.
  • Cell wall is a characteristics of plant cell.
  • Cell wall is non living.

In algae, cell wall is made up of cellulose, galactans, mannans and calcium carbonate.

In plant , cell wall is made up of cellulose, hemicellulose , pectin and protein.

In fungi, cell wall is made up of chitin.

In bacteria, cell wall is made up of peptidoglycan.

Define cell wall .

\huge{\underline{\underline{\bf{\blue{Answer :}}}}}

Definition:- It is the outermost rigid, freely permeable ( प्रवेश के योग्य) layer found outside the plasma membrane in all the plant cell, bacteria,blue-green algae, some protists and all fungi. It is absent from the animal cell.

Structure and function :- Cell wall of plant cell is mainly formed of a fibrous ( रेशेदार) polysaccharide(बहुशर्करा) called cellulose, while it is formed of peptidoglycan in bacteria and blue - green algal cells but is formed of chitin in most of fungi.

Function :-

  • Cell wall is a protective and supportive coat. It also provide a definite shape of cell.
  • It is freely permeable to many substances.
  • It exerts an inward wall pressure to resist the outward - direction turgor pressure exerted by cell aap so the plant cell can withstand without bursting much greater changes in the surrounding medium than animal cells
