cellular respiration is the process of formation of energy by the oxidation of stored food material. It is the process by which organisms combine oxygen with foodstuff molecules, diverting the chemical energy in these substances into life-sustaining activities and discarding, as waste products, carbon dioxide and water. It occurs in mitochondria.

Gluconeogenesis is the process of formation of glycogen by any other substrate like fat or protein. It is process of making glucose (sugar) from its own breakdown products or from the breakdown products of lipids (fats) or proteins. Gluconeogenesis occurs mainly in cells of the liver or kidney.
