1. A communal mind often leads to the quest for dominance in a country.
For those belonging to majority community, it takes the form of majoritarian dominance over the rest. For those from minority community, it takes the form of desire for a separate country or political unit.

2. Political mobilisation in the lines of religion is another form communalism in politics. Politcal parties using sacred symbols, religious leaders, emotional appeal and plain fear tries to bring the followers of a religion together into the political arena.

3. Sometimes communalism in politics takes its most ugly form of communal riots, massacres, and violence.
