Concentration of a solution:

Concentration of solution depend on number moles of solute particles in solution.

  • Mass percentage of solute (Weight/Weight). Mass of the solute present in 100 parts by mass of solution mass % of solute = Wb / Wa + Wb x 100

  • Volume percentage of solute (v/v). Volume of solute present in 100 parts by volume of solute. Volume % of solute = Vb / Va + Vb x 100

  • Mass / Volume percentage of solute = Wb / Vsolution x 100. Mass of solute present in 100 parts by volume of solution.

  • Parts per million Short form ppm Mass of solute present in million parts by mass of solution.

  • Mole fraction of solute: It is the ratio of number of moles of solute and solvent. Xb = nB / nA + nB xA + xB = 1
