there are two different routes if federation :-

⏺ coming together federation - in this route, small states combine to form a larger unit to increase it's power and security. here the state government is more powerful than the central government.

examples :- USA, Australia etc.

⏺ holding together federation - in this route, a larger country divide it's power between smaller states for a better adminstration. here the central government is more powerful than the state government.

examples :- India, Belgium etc.

There are 2 routes of federation:

  • coming together- many countries come together to pool their security and retain their sovereignty. eg- USA, Switzerland and Australia.
  • holding together- a single nation divides itself into smaller units for better administration.eg- India, Spain and Belgium.
