In reference to biology, Differentiation is a process in which cells, tissues, organs acquire certain characteristics and features which makes them specialized in the function they perform.

For example, differentiation of meristem into specialized cells and tissues like plants and stems.

Not all cells are capable of differentiation at all ages. Some differentiates into special organs and stops whereas some keep no differentiating throughout their life.
