Such reactions in which there is an exchange of ions between the reactants are called double displacement reaction For Example

Na2SO4(Sodium Sulphate) + BaCl2(Barium Chloride) -> BaSO4(Barium sulphate) + 2NaCl(Sodium Chloride)

In a displacement reaction, two reacting compound exchange their corresponding ions and form two new compound.

A general equation for such reaction is :-
AB(aq)+CD(aq)----->AD(s)+CB(aq)

Eg:- BaCl2(aq)+Na2So4(aq)------>BaSo4(s)+2NaCl(aq)
