A dust storm is a meteorological phenomenon common in arid and semi-arid regions. Dust storms arise when a gust front or other strong wind blows loose sand and dirt from a dry surface. 
During this time Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bangladesh and North-Eastern states of India are affected by violent thunderstorms. They cause considerable damage to life and property and are known as Kalbaisakhior the calamity of Baishakhi, the month of April–May in India
Violent thunderstorms in the Gangetic plains of India are locally known as Kal Baisakhi
