electric potential at a point is the amount of work done to move a unit positive charge from infinity to that point

In simple term..you can understand this as a Energy at Location....As Point Represent Location

If you go or move to different locations u have to do some amount of work...

For example : If you lift any object to different heights ( Locations or Point ) you have to do some amount of work...as you lift the object higer and higher...amount of work increases...

As a result you loose ur energy...as per energy conservation , Energy neither created nor destroyed..it transfered...This means your energy gets transfered to the object which you lift up at certain Locations...

Here you work against gravity...and you find that at different locations you have to do some work and your work convert into energy...this energy is nothing just a potential energy of the objects at different Locations or Points...This is what we call gravitional potential...because here work is done against gravity....

Similary imagine a Positive charge as a Source Charge and a we want to bring another positive charge nearby it...due to strong Repulsion its not easy to bring the positive charge nearby the another charge...here some amount of work is to be done against the Repulsive force due these charges....

Now as if we keep bringing the Positive charge nearby the Source charge..the amount of work increases..This at different locations Energy is different...this is nothing just a potential energy stored at different location...This is due to electric charges so called Electrical Potential energy...and And amount of work done to bring the charge at different location is called Electric Potential...

hope this hlp...
